No. of Questions= 10

1 250.120(A) New Fine Print Note
FPN See UL Guide Information on FHIT systems for equipment grounding conductors installed in a raceway that are part of an electrical circuit protective system of a fire-rated cable listed to maintain circuit integrity.
This fine print note is to alert installers that grounding conductors should be fire rated when used with fire-rated circuits. A THHN insulated grounding conductor that is not fire-rated shall not be used in these fire-rated systems unless they are specified as part of the system.

Question: When installing grounding conductors in a fire-rated system the conductor insulation ________________ as the other fire-rated conductors.

a) should have a fire rating
b) shall have the same fire-rating
c) does not require the same fire rating
2 250.122(C) Multiple Circuits
This section has been revised to to permit a single equipment grounding conductor to be installed in cable trays that contain multiple circuits. This grounding conductor shall be sized using Table 250.122 based on the largest overcurrent device protecting the circuits in the cable tray but according to 392.3(B)(1)(c) shall be a minimum size of No. 4 AWG or larger.

Question:  ______ equipment grounding conductor(s) is permitted to be used in a cable tray containing multiple circuits but it shall not be smaller than __________ .

a) two, No. 8 AWG
b) three, No 2 AWG
c) one, No. 4 AWG
3 250.122(F)(2) Conductors in Parallel. A major change has been made by deleting the permission to use smaller equipment grounding conductors in parallel cables when ground fault protection is provided. This permission has been deleted. Now the equipment grounding conductors shall be sized using Table 250.122 based on the rating of the overcurrent protective device and this size conductors shall be installed in each of the parallel raceways or cables.
Where conductors are run in parallel in multiple raceways or cables as permitted in 310.4, the equipment grounding conductors, where used, shall be run in parallel in each raceway or cable. Each parallel equipment grounding conductor shall be sized on the basis of the ampere rating of the overcurrent device protecting the circuit conductors in the raceway or cable in accordance with Table 250.122.

Question: Where parallel conductors are installed using Metal Clad cable or a raceway the size of the equipment grounding conductors in each raceway or cable shall be based on the ampere ______ of the overcurrent device protecting the circuit conductors in the raceway or cable using Table 250.122.

a) ground fault setting
b) setting
c) rating
4 250.142(B) Exception No. 2(2) Load side Equipment
It shall be permissible to ground meter enclosures by connection to the grounded circuit conductor on the load side of the service disconnect where all the following conditions apply:
(1) No service ground-fault protection is installed
(2) All meter enclosures are located immediately adjacent to the service disconnecting means
(3) The size of the grounded circuit conductor is not smaller than the size specified in Table 250.122 for equipment grounding conductors

Question: It shall be permissible to ground meter enclosures by connection to the ______________ on the load side of the service disconnect where required conditions apply.

a) grounded circuit conductor
b) equipment grounding conductor
c) grounding electrode conductor
5 250.146 Connecting Receptacle Grounding Terminal to Box
An equipment bonding jumper shall be used to connect the grounding terminal of a grounding-type receptacle to a grounded box unless grounded as in 250.146(A) through (D).
[This next sentence is new.]
The equipment bonding jumper shall be sized in accordance with Table 250.122 based on the rating of the overcurrent device protecting the circuit conductors.

Question: The equipment bonding jumper that is installed from a receptacle to a box shall be sized using _________ based on the rating of the overcurrent device protecting the circuit conductors.

a) Table 250.125
b) Table 250.66
c) Table 250.122
6 250.146(A) Surface Mounted Box
A new last sentence (2) has been added.
A listed exposed work cover shall be permitted to be the grounding and bonding means when
(1) the device is attached to the cover with at least two fasteners that are permanent (such as a rivet) or have a thread locking or screw locking means and
NEW (2) when the cover mounting holes are located on a flat non-raised portion of the cover.

Question: When a listed exposed work cover shall be permitted to be the grounding and bonding means it ________________________ .

a) shall have cover mounting holes located on a flat non-raised portion of the cover
b) shall have a device attached to the cover with at least two fasteners that are permanent (such as a rivet) or have a thread locking or screw locking means
c) a and b
7 300.4(E) NEW Raceways Installed Under Roof Decking
A cable or raceway type wiring methods installed in exposed or concealed locations under metal-corrugated sheet roof decking, shall be installed and supported so the nearest outside surface of the cable or raceway is not less than 1 ½ inches from the nearest surface of the roof decking.
Exception: Rigid Metal Conduit and Intermediate Metal Conduit shall not be required to comply to this rule.

Question: A cable or raceway type wiring methods installed in exposed or concealed locations under metal-corrugated sheet roof decking, shall be installed and supported so the nearest outside surface of the cable or raceway is not less than ______ inches from the nearest surface of the roof decking

a) 2
b) 1 1/2
c) 3
8 300.5(B) Wet Locations
The first sentence has been revised to read: The interior of enclosures or raceways installed underground shall be considered to be a wet location.

Question: Conductors installed in raceways that are installed underground shall be listed for wet locations. The following types of conductor insulations are listed for this application.

a) THWN
b) XHHW
c) THHN
d) a and b but not c
9 300.5(C) Underground Cable Under Buildings This section has been revised to remove the requirement requiring that the raceway extend beyond the the outside walls of a building. This allows underground cables to be installed in a raceway where both ends of the raceway are in the same building.
Underground cables installed under a building shall be in a raceway.

Question: Cable installed under a building shall be in a __________ .

a) concrete envelope
b) protective sleeve
c) raceway
10 300.5(D)(1) Emerging From Grade
Direct-buried conductors and cables emerging from grade and specified in columns 1 and 4 of Table 300.5 shall be protected by enclosures or raceways extending from the minimum cover distance below grade required by 300.5(A) to a point at least 8 feet above finished grade. In no case shall the protection be required to extend 18 inches below finished grade.

Question: Direct-buried conductors and cables emerging from grade and specified in columns 1 and 4 of Table 300.5 shall be protected by enclosures or raceways extending from the minimum cover distance below grade required by 300.5(A) to a point at least _____ feet above finished grade.

a) 3
b) 6
c) 8
d) 10
