1 404.9(B)(1) Grounding
Snap switches, including dimmer and similar control switches, shall be connected to an equipment grounding conductor and shall provide a means to connect metal faceplates to the equipment grounding conductor, whether or not a metal faceplate is installed. Snap switches shall be considered to be part of an effective ground-fault current path if either of the following conditions is met:
The words "or metal cover that is connected to an equipment grounding conductor" have been added to (1).
(1) The switch is mounted with metal screws to a metal box or metal cover that is connected to an equipment grounding conductor or to a nonmetallic box with integral means for connecting to an equipment grounding conductor.
(2) An equipment grounding conductor or equipment bonding jumper is connected to an equipment grounding termination of the snap switch.

Question: Snap switches, including dimmer and similar control switches, shall be connected to an equipment grounding conductor and shall provide a means to connect metal faceplates to the equipment grounding conductor, whether or not a metal faceplate is installed. Snap switches shall be considered to be part of an effective ground-fault current path if either of the following conditions is met:
(1) The switch is mounted with metal screws to a metal box or ___________________________or to a nonmetallic box with integral means for connecting to an equipment grounding conductor.

a) metal cover that is connected to a grounded conductor
b) metal cover that is connected to a metal box
c) metal cover that is connected to an equipment grounding conductor
2 406.4(G) Voltage Between Adjacent Devices
The requirements for switches now also apply to receptacles.
A receptacle shall not be grouped or ganged in enclosures with other receptacles, snap switches, or similar devices, unless they are arranged so that the voltage between adjacent devices does not exceed 300 volts, or unless they are installed in enclosures equipped with identified, securely installed barriers between adjacent devices

Question: In general if the voltage between adjacent receptacles in the same enclosure exceeds 300 volts, the enclosures shall be equipped with identified, securely installed __________between adjacent devices

a) barriers
b) metal plates
c) plastic inserts
3 406.8 (A) and (B) In both damp and wet locations all 15- and 20-ampere 120 volt and 250 volt receptacles shall be listed weather-resistant type. Studies have revealed that receptacles installed in damp and wet location with the required covers are deteriorating and causing dangerous malfunctions. Therefore the 2008 NEC is requiring that receptacles in these locations be listed as weather-resistant types.
A new Fine print Note added to (A) and (B) states that the types of receptacles covered by this requirement are identified as 5-15, 5-20, 6-15, and 6-20 in ANSI/NEMA WD 6-2002.

In both damp and wet locations all 15- and 20-ampere 120 volt and 250 volt receptacles shall be __________weather-resistant type.

a) approved
b) listed
c) identified
4 406.11 Tamper Resistant Receptacles in Dwelling Units
In all areas specified in 210.52, all 125-volt, 15- and 20-ampere receptacles shall be listed tamper-resistant receptacles.
This new requirement is an attempt to reduce the injuries to 2,400 children each year because they insert foreign objects into receptacles.
210.52 covers all dwelling unit 125-volt, 15- and 20-ampere receptacles including out of door, garages, laundry, kitchens, basements, and bathrooms

Question: In all areas specified in 210.52, all 125-volt, 15- and 20-ampere receptacles shall be _______ tamper-resistant receptacles.

a) listed
b) identified
c) approved
5 408.3(F) High-Leg Identification
A switchboard or panelboard containing a 4-wire, delta-connected system where the midpoint of one phase winding is grounded shall be legibly and permanently field marked as follows:
“Caution ____ Phase has ____ volts to Ground”

Question: A switchboard or panelboard containing a 4-wire, delta-connected system where the midpoint of one phase winding is grounded shall be legibly and permanently field marked as follows: _________________________________________ .

a) Caution ____ Phase has ____ volts to Ground
b) Warning high leg delta
c) High Leg is Orange
6 408.4 Circuit directory or circuit Identification
Two new sentences have been added to this section.
1. Spare positions that contain unused overcurrent devices or switches shall be described accordingly.
2. No circuit shall be described in a manner that depends on transient conditions of occupancy.

Question: The circuit directory shall mark __________ that contain unused overcurrent devices or switches.

a) open positions
b) spare positions
c) future use positions
7 408.36 Overcurrent Protection
The 42 overcurrent device limitation for panelboards has been removed. Panelboards from Canada that have spaces for more than 42 overcurrent devices are now legal if used for other than exception No. 2.
The definition of lighting and appliance branch circuit panelboards and of power panelboards have been deleted .
This section has been restructured.

Question: The definition of lighting and appliance panelboard has been removed from the Code and panelboards are no longer limited to ______ overcurrent devices.

a) 66
b) 42
c) 100
8 408.36 Exception No. 1 Individual protection shall not be required for a panelboard used as service equipment with multiple disconnecting means in accordance with 230.71. In panelboards protected by three or more main circuit breakers or sets of fuses the circuit breakers or sets of fuses shall not supply a second bus structure within the same paenelboard assembly.
230.71 states: The service disconnecting means shall consist of not more than six switches or sets of circuit breakers, or a combination of not more than six switches and sets of circuit breakers, mounted in a single enclosure, in a group of separate enclosures, or in or on a switchboard. There shall be not more than six sets of disconnects per service grouped in any one location.

Question: Individual protection shall not be required for a panelboard used as ___________ with multiple disconnecting means in accordance with 230.71.

a) power panelboard
b) lighting and appliance panelboard
c) service equipment
9 409.21(B) [Industrial Control Panels] Location of overcurrent protection
More than one circuit is permitted to supply industrial control panels, but overcurrent protection shall be provided for each incoming supply circuit by either of the following:
(1) An overcurrent protective device located ahead of the industrial control panel.
(2) A single main overcurrent protective device located within the industrial control panel. Where the overcurrent protection is provided as part of the industrial control panel, the supply conductors shall be considered as either feeders or taps as covered by 240.21.

Question: More than one circuit is permitted to supply industrial control panels, but ______________ shall be provided for each incoming supply circuit.

a) overcurrent protection
b) short circuit protection
c) ground fault protection
10 409.104(B) Wire Bending Space in Industrial Control Panels
Wire bending space within industrial control panels for field wiring terminals shall be in accordance with the requirements in 430.10(B).
Wire bending space requirments found in Article 312 for gutters no longer apply.
Note: Table 430.10(B) does not specify wire bending space for Wire sizes No 14, No. 12, and No. 10 AWG.

Question: Wire bending space within industrial control panels for field wiring terminals shall be in accordance with the requirements in ________ .

a) 430.10(B)
b) 430.12
c) 430.20
