A Power Panelboard is defined as one having 10 per cent or fewer of its overcurrent devices protecting lighting and appliance branch circuits. A Lighting and Appliance panelboard is one having more than 10 per cent of its overcurrent devices protecting lighting and appliance branch circuits.
A new definition for a lighting and appliance branch circuit is given as one that has a connection to the neutral of the panelboard and that has overcurrent protection of 30 amperes or less in one or more conductors.
The definition for power panelboards is used in the new requirements for overcurrent protection for power panelboards in 384-16(b).
